It has been said that the Christian life is a marathon not a sprint. You don’t trust in Jesus and immediately go to Paradise. The Bible uses the word endurance many times to describe the believer’s journey of faith. A marathon takes endurance, training and builds character. Jesus speaks of the end of the marathon in Matthew 24. He describes it this way, “and this will be a sign of the end of the age.…Lawlessness will increase.” (vs.12) I believe, you can just turn on the news and see that lawlessness is increasing at an alarming rate. However, the promise from Jesus is this, “the one who endures to the end will be saved!” (vs.13)
We are not just simply to endure this end, we are to thrive to the end. Jesus commissioned everyone to, “Go and make disciples of all nations… and the gospel of the kingdom will be preached to the ends of the earth and the end will come.” (vs.14 & Matthew 28:18-20) God is not finished until all have had the opportunity to hear. Jesus mission was to redeem “all who would call on His name”, and the message of salvation must be proclaimed to the world. (Romans 10:13) Church, run this race of faith with endurance and bring life to the dying.
